چکیده

Indoor positioning systems is an actively researched area of computer science. Various techniques, methods and applications were developed in the last decade. This paper gives a brief comparison of trilateriation and fingerprinting techniques. Received signal strength of WiFi access points were used during the tests. Standard, genetic algorithm and simulated annealing based trilateriation methods were implemented. Fingerprinting methods were based on nearest neighbor approach. Correlation coefficient and euclidean distance were used to calculate distance of the actual and the stored measurements. Experimental results showed that approximately 3–4 meter accuracy can be achieved with the tested methods.

An Indoor Positioning System Based on Wi-Fi for Energy Management in Smart Buildings

To offer indoor services to occupants in the context of smart buildings, it is necessary to consider information concerning to the identity and location of the occupants. This paper proposes an indoor positioning system (IPS) based on Wi-Fi fingerprint and K-nearest neighbors (KNN) method. The positioning of a mobile device (MD) using Wi-Fi technology involves online and offline phases. In this...

Indoor localization method comparison: Fingerprinting and Trilateration algorithm

Enhanced Positioning Systems (EPS) are able to supplement Global Positioning Systems (GPS) in indoor environments where GPS cannot work because of disrupted or weak signals. Most EPS are Wifi-based because Wifi is a common technology available in many indoor environments and is deployed in cost effective manner. Fingerprinting and Trilateration are the two general methods used for calculating p...

Continuous Indoor Positioning Fusing WiFi, Smartphone Sensors and Landmarks

To exploit the complementary strengths of WiFi positioning, pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR), and landmarks, we propose a novel fusion approach based on an extended Kalman filter (EKF). For WiFi positioning, unlike previous fusion approaches setting measurement noise parameters empirically, we deploy a kernel density estimation-based model to adaptively measure the related measurement noise stat...

Performance Comparison of WiFi and UWB Fingerprinting Indoor Positioning Systems

Ultra-wideband (UWB) and WiFi technologies have been widely proposed for the implementation of accurate and scalable indoor positioning systems (IPSs). Among different approaches, fingerprinting appears particularly suitable for WiFi IPSs and was also proposed for UWB IPSs, in order to cope with the decrease in accuracy of time of arrival (ToA)-based lateration schemes in the case of severe mul...
